Written by Master BuKong
Vajra-Holding Secret Lord, empowered by the Buddha’s spiritual strength, spoke the following five analogies in order to initiate the teaching of the “Secret Skillful Means of the Great Compassionate Womb Realm”:
“World-Honored One! The element of space has no boundaries, no distinctions of form or appearance, and no dualistic concept such as even the ‘absence of distinctions.’ Likewise, the Tathāgata’s ‘Omniscient Wisdom’ transcends all forms of differentiation—beyond distinction, beyond non-distinction, and even beyond the notion of non-distinction.”
“World-Honored One! The element of earth bears and supports all things; all beings depend upon it to survive. In the same way, the Tathāgata’s ‘Omniscient Wisdom’ serves as the foundation for gods, humans, and asuras alike.”
“World-Honored One! The element of fire consumes all wood without fatigue. In the same way, the Tathāgata’s ‘Omniscient Wisdom’ burns away all ignorance and delusion without cessation.”
“World-Honored One! The element of wind clears away all dust and impurities. Likewise, the Tathāgata’s ‘Omniscient Wisdom’ removes the dust of afflictions from the minds of sentient beings.”
“World-Honored One! The element of water nourishes all life, bringing joy and vitality to living beings. In the same way, the Tathāgata’s ‘Omniscient Wisdom’ provides true benefit and happiness to all gods and humans in the world.”
The “Five Great Elements” spoken of by Vajra-Holding Secret Lord, correspond to the “Five Wheels”:
The syllable “A” represents the Earth Wheel.
The syllable “Vaṁ” represents the Water Wheel.
The syllable “Raṁ” represents the Fire Wheel.
The syllable “Haṁ” represents the Wind Wheel.
The syllable “Khaṁ” represents the Space Wheel.
All things in the world arise from seeds dependent on the conditions of earth, water, fire, and wind; and with the unobstructed nature of space, these seeds can truly grow and manifest. If any one condition is lacking, the seed will not be able to sprout or flourish.
In the same way, the wisdom-seed of the Tathāgata also requires the “Omniscient Wisdom” corresponding to the Five Great Elements as its supportive condition. Only then can it nourish the Tathāgata-seeds within the bodies and minds of sentient beings, ultimately ripening into the inconceivable, unborn, and undying fruit of Bodhi.
Vajra-Holding Secret Lord, then asked: “World-Honored One! This supremely ultimate ‘Omniscient Wisdom’— From what kind of cause and condition does it arise? By what root principle does it operate? And through what final consummation does it bring benefit to sentient beings?”
